Honoring the Fallen – A Memorial Day Message to All D7Auxiliarists
26 May 2025
Today, our Nation pauses to observe Memorial Day, a day of reflection and reverence for the men and women who laid down their lives in service to our country. These heroes made the ultimate sacrifice so that we might live in freedom, peace, and possibility.
As members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, we wear the uniform not out of obligation, but out of a deep commitment to serve. Those we remember today wore it knowing they might never return home. Their sacrifice is a powerful and humbling reminder that the freedoms we cherish have come at great cost.
Wherever you are today, whether on patrol, with friends and family, attending a ceremony, or simply enjoying a quiet moment, I ask that you take time to remember. Reflect on their courage, speak their names, carry their stories forward, and know that your service continues their legacy. Each time you step up to serve, whether conducting a vessel exam, standing watch, assisting in an emergency, or mentoring a new member, you do so in the spirit of those who gave all. You honor their memory not just with words, but with action, commitment, and compassion.
I invite each of you to observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 1500 local time, to reflect quietly, wherever you are, on the lives lost in service to this nation. Use this moment to reflect on those who can no longer stand beside us, but whose spirit lives on in everything we do.
Thank you for the selfless service you provide across District 7. Your dedication not only strengthens our mission, it ensures that the memory of our fallen lives on through our actions and deeds.
